Wine is something that most people would not associate Thailand with, in real terms it has only become something that has started to be a popular beverage with Thais in the last decade or so. Perhaps the influx of people buying condominiums from Western countries has added to the demand for wine, and now Thailand has taken wine and its cultivation seriously. One of the most beautiful places on the Eastern Seaboard, Silverlake Vineyards, has been producing quality product for a number of years now.
The vineyard was founded in 2002, by Mr Surachai Tangjaitrong and Mrs Supansa Nuangpirom for the purpose of bringing people together through the dual passions of the owners: Namely good wine and good music, in a beautiful location.
The owners immersed themselves in the culture of growing the grapes and making wine. Silverlake soon developed the latest wine producing and juicing technology from Italy and started to be pioneers in Thailand’s fledgling wine industry. The term for these wines is New Latitudes Wines, and Silverlake produces Red, White and Rose wines. Silverlake sits along Thailand’s Eastern Seaboard, where the long dry growing season, the strong coastal sunshine, and the vineyards lakeside setting of rich soil and pure water, make for ideal growing conditions for a number of different grape varieties that make up the Silverlake Wines. The current vintages are 2013 Shiraz, 2012 Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012 & 2010 Private Reserve’s and 2011 Chenin Blanc.
Silverlake has also earned itself a growing reputation for a destination for outstanding live music and performances. The annual Silverlake Music Festival, which brings tens of thousand music fans is one of Thailand’s most popular music events. There is a natural outdoor arena that holds regular jazz performances, amongst various other events held in the beautiful grounds.
The beautiful natural surroundings and the magnificent lake create an excellent backdrop for exploring the Vineyards and Gardens. With breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, both can be enjoyed on foot or by joining the Tram Ride Tours that depart regularly from the Villagio. A stroll through manicured gardens will allow you the time to enjoy playful gazebos and a myriad of other attractions, and of course a trip around the vines offers the perfect chance to soak up Silverlake’s natural beauty.
The Silverlake Wine & Grill Restaurant and Pizza Cafe is the vineyard’s family style restaurant that offers dining in the marvellous restaurant or al fresco to take in all the surrounding panoramic views. Being served are top Italian and Thai dishes and the chance to sample the vineyards produce. In the evening there is live music to make this an ideal spot to have a leisurely family meal. Silverlake Vineyard is only 20 minutes drive from Pattaya City, but you would think that you were in Tuscany. Where the vineyard is situated it is elevated, thus offering spectacular views and refreshing cooling breezes. There are not many such places that exist in Thailand, and Silverlake is certainly a jewel in the crown of the Eastern Seaboard. It is one of the many great activities that is rapidly drawing people from far and wide to settle in the region.
